It'd be like getting your wallet stolen at a bar and suing Toyota for making the car that got you to the bar. Except that AOL was not being used by the people nor the Usenet, AOL was HIS ISP and since he found it while using their service they must have been responsible. He once famously sued AOL because people posted his material to Usenet. Yea, he's got some crazy ideas about stuff. Still most of the other episodes are excellent. As the pilot it seemed like the producers weren't comfortable with setting it on a distant planet in the far future. 1x01 - 1x02 Sandkings for example isn't anywhere near as creepy as the George R R Martin novella it is based on. Plus the guest star coupled with mostly one off story formula and the tended to produce good acting. So the producers could pretty much do whatever they wanted (even sequels to episodes that people liked). I think the reason it works is because it is a series rather than a serial - there's no real attempt at keeping a consistent timeline. It's also got some decent guest stars too - Beau/Lloyd Bridges, Heather Graham, Charlton Heston, Brent Spiner, David McCallum. A human is recreated from DNA in a world populated by androids. And the thing is the Outer Limits is better than any Sci Fi currently on TV. I remember seeing a few episodes back in the 90's and thinking they were good.
